Walton Hall Ginger Cake

A recent revival of ours is the Walton Hall Ginger Cake.

WALTON HALL

This recipe was originally created by the daughter to the gamekeeper, Susan Butler at Walton Hall, Warwickshire and was a favourite of the late Sir Richard Hamilton, 9th Baronet and owner.

It seems Sir Richard was nursed post WWII by Ms Butler and amongst the recuperative’s was this delicious cake.

A dark, smooth rich, light and moist molasses cake, studded with chopped stem ginger and a special sticky glaze, or version of this cake has been described as ‘the ultimate ginger cake’ and with various audible expressions of satisfaction, it is a new signature in our baking repertoire.
